Living with Indian tribes in the rainforests of Peru and Costa Rica is just part of the job for Dean Kosch! When he isn’t out on these adventurous expeditions, Dean shares these experiences by teaching local school children appreciation and respect for exotic animals through his business – Curious Creatures.
Dean has been working with exotic animals for over 20 years and in the 1980’s he opened a pet shop in Beverly, Massachusetts. His shop was one of the first exotic pet shops in New England and he became well known in the area for his expertise; people would travel from as far as Rhode Island and New York for advice on purchasing and caring for these pets. In the mid 1990’s Dean was approached by some local school teachers to bring the animals into the classroom. The children were fascinated by Dean’s show and soon all of the schools in the area wanted Dean to visit them, so Dean sold the retail part of his business and began traveling with his show full time.
Dean began working with his local Padgett representative, Herb Harris, back in the early stages of his business in the eighties and has been with Padgett ever since. Dean’s wife Suzanne says, “Herb was a life saver for Dean - because before I came along he had everything just written down on scraps of paper - Herb would do a lot of the transitioning of the numbers from scraps of paper onto computer…Herb keeps us on track and on time for all of our tax liabilities and government ordered forms.”
Dean and Suzanne rely on Herb’s expertise and appreciate the personal service he gives them. Suzanne says, “We really like that Herb comes out to see us and keeps us in touch with what the rest of the economic world is doing. We get along great and appreciate his expertise in the field. He keeps us up to date with all of the important small business information that is mandated from the government. He is also a great resource if I have questions about a specific transaction that could have a positive or negative bottom-line impact on us.”
